Cricket: A
Gentlemen's Game!
Cricket
was invented in the vast fields of England,
supposedly by shepherds who herded their flock.
Later on this game was shown benevolence by
aristocrats, and now has the stature of being
England's national game. After a century now,
cricket stands in the international arena, with a
place of its own.
In
all the terms cricket is being played at The Assam
Valley School. Generally the School runs four sides,
Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 19 level. The
Inter-House Cricket competitions for boys are
conducted annually. To encourage participation, the
Boys’ Division has two sections – Senior and
Intermediate. The cricket facilities include a
dedicated ground with cricket turf and cemented
nets. Net sessions are run throughout the week.
The 1st XI has around six
fixtures in the form of Inter-School Tournaments,
including Inter-School and club level matches on
Saturdays and Sundays. Every year our team takes
part in the prestigious tournaments like
Inter-School District Cricket Tournament at Tezpur,
Dhruve Pandove Memorial T-20 Cricket Tournament at
YPS, Patiala, Invitational
Cricket Tournament at Pinegrove School, Kaushali (H.P.),
Maharaja
Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Tournament at Scindia
School, Gwalior and Von Goldstein
T20 Inter-School Cricket Tournament at BCS, Shimla.
The
Assam Valley School has been organizing the “AVS
Invitational Cricket Tournament” since the year
2006 onwards in the school campus. Every year school
cricket teams come from all over the country to take
part in this tournament. Our boys have been
representing District teams in Under 16 and Under 19
categories. We hope that AVS cricketers will earn
name and fame for the School and for themselves.
