CRAFT DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY (CDT) CENTER

 

The Craft Design & Technology (CDT) Center is the epicenter of all activities related to the field 0f Design interfaced with Art and Craft,at the Assam Valley School.

The AVS through the CDT Center, is one of the very few schools in India, which teach design as a subject at middle and high school level. The professional courses offered at the CDT Center help in identification, fostering and development of talent in the field of design at a very early stage which helps in laying down a rock-solid foundation for students having an eye on the designervocation.

The various activities include Carpentry and Furniture design, Textiles, Fashion, Printing, Accessory design, Paper craft, Needlecraft, Metal craft, Graphic design and research and application of natural dyeing.

The students are also exposed to workshops and seminars conducted by design mavens from the best institutions in India. It has recently added a feather in its cap when it carried out a research project with the Material Fibre Department of the Ontario College of Art & Design University (OCADU), Toronto, Canada. This project helped in identification and production of over 200 natural dye colours in India and Canada and has been a first of its kind at school level.

The faculty at the CDT Center consists of affiliates with vast familiarity in the field of design and homogeneous art and craft.

The CDT’s vision for the coming years consists of evolving ecofriendly designer products which are practical in their usage and have a varied mass appeal.

Mrs. Priyanka Joshi (Chair)

Mrs. Priyanka Joshi is a graduate of the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad and had toiled for nearly eleven years in the corporate design field before she joined the school in 2009. She brings with her loads of talent and a fresh overview on the subject of Design education. Under her CDT has evolved into its present form and the initiative is benefitting a large number of students at the school.

 

 

 

Mr. Harinarayan Baruah – Teacher

Mr Baruahis a graduatefrom Guwahati University and has a load of experience in teaching grassroot Craft and Design in the state of Assam. His expertise lies in the field of textile, handicrafts and rural development. He is an output of the Textile Design programme from the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology, Guwahatiand joined the CDT Center in 2011.
