DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

 

The objectives of teaching Commerce are:

• To develop an interest in the theory and practice of business, trade and industry.

• To familiarize candidates with theoretical foundations, organizing, managing and handling operations of a business firm.

• To provide a study of the more important aspects of the commercial world.

• To provide knowledge of the activities of commerce in the marketing of goods and services.

Accordingly, the Indian Council for Secondary Examinations has designed the syllabi with the primary objective of imparting knowledge of the various commercial activities and their effective management. This focus thus provides opportunities for pursuing future courses of study and professions that are both socially useful and economically fruitful.

Mr. Debnath Pyne (Teacher)

An alumnus of Ramkrishna Mission Vidyalaya Narendrapur, South Point High School and St. Xavier’s College Calcutta, Mr. Debnath Pyne completed his Master’s degree in Commerce (Finance and Accounts) from Calcutta University. A national scholar and a merit rank holder of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountant of India, Mr. Debnath Pyne gave up lucrative offers from the corporate world, to pursue his dream and passion for teaching. Thus he took up teaching job in his alma mater South Point High School, to become a part of the machinery that helps to build up the future of the nation. After 18 years of a successful career at South Point High School he has joined The Assam Valley School as a faculty-member in the Department of Commerce and Accounts.
