DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY

The Department of History aims to promote an understanding of history as a discipline, including the nature and diversity of its sources, methods and interpretations. It also helps students to gain a better understanding of the present through critical reflection upon the past. To enhance the interest of the students in History, a variety of teaching methods are used, incorporating technology, research-oriented assignments, debates, field trips, tests, quizzes and lecture-discussions. The Departmentís challenge is to intellectually inspire each pupil with the love of History and help him/her imbibe Higher Order Thinking Skills. From ancient India to contemporary China, from the national movement to Post-independent consolidation of India as a modern state, from the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia to the collapse of communism in Soviet Union, from Vietnam to the Conflict in the Middle East: whether you want to learn more about the situation in todayís Afghanistan or the situation in Germany before World War II, this is the place for you.
