In order to make teaching and learning “Mathematics” enjoyable and fun, students at AVS practice series of activities which enables them to have a sense of “learning by doing” and observe to develop the conclusions on their own. Vedic Maths is practiced for enhancing mental numerical abilities of a child. Technology in the form of GSP at E-Guru Maths Lab is used as a handy tool to enhance concepts on Geometry where students explore the basic facts on their own before accepting them as properties/laws. Maths quizzes are organized to enhance the interest of “MATHEMATICS” amongst the budding mathematicians.


a) Introduction of Activity based teaching and learning “Mathematics” for grades 3 to 8.

b) Second runner up in “International Mathematics Olympiad” held at Lucknow.

c) Transaction of “Vedic Maths at the middle school level and establishing the expertise of the students in the same for the project: “ An alternative approach to do numerical calculations ” which was recognized as one of the most original project by “British Council, India”.

d) In the recently concluded Board Examination the following students made the department proud by scoring 100% marks:

i) Demita Nambam (ICSE) ii) Shantanu Mittal(ICSE) iii) Tonmoy Talukdar(ICSE)  



Mr. Bijan Panigrahi (Teacher)


19 years of motivated career as a Teacher in various Schools affiliated to CBSE and ICSE which include 11 and half years as Grade 6 Teacher(Master Teacher) for Ministry of Education , Royal Govt. Of Bhutan.Also served Vikash group of Institution, Odisha as a Senior Secondary Academic co-ordinator for three years prior to joining Assam Valley School.

Experience includes:

1. CBSE Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII ) paper Examiner.


3. Member of Curriculum review committee from 2004 to 2006 for Curriculum and Professional Support Division , an autonomous body under Ministry of Education , Royal Govt. of Bhutan .




Md. Sabir Ansari (Teacher)

17 Years of experience of teaching Mathematics in ICSE and CBSE School. He has been teaching senior classes for the last 10 years. He believes Mathematics is important part of every one’s life and its phobia can be removed from each child’s mind that too at an early stage by understanding his/her individual problem in Mathematics.

He is also working as House-Master of Lohit lower School from 2011. He worked as T.G.T (Math) at “ARMY SCHOOL, TEZPUR” from 1998(July) to 2007(Jan), TIME TABLE INCHARGE (from 2003 to 2007 ) I/C DISCIPLINE ( from 2004 to 2007 ), EXAMINATION INCHARGE (from 2002 to 2007), QUIZ MASTER ( from 1999 to 2007 ), Assisted PET in conducting “INTER ARMY SCHOOL SPORTS EVENTS”, CO-ORDINATOR ( from 2006 to 2007 ).

Registered with IB as “Assistant Examiner” in Diploma Level from 2011 and done corrections on-line on Scoris of “Mathematics SL-Paper-2 for last four consecutive year starting from the Year 2012.





Mr. Amitava Bandyopadhyay (Teacher)

Mr. Amitava Bandyopadhyay has been a friend and facilitator to his students for more than 23 years. A self-driven leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively collaborate with all levels of staff members and foster quality relationship with students. Before joining Assam Valley School ,he worked with Evergreen High School in Kolkata, The Indian Public School in Dehradun, Tatachem DAV Public School in Gujarat He has a Master's degree in Mathematics from the, Calcutta University,a Bachelor's degree in Education from the Calcutta University . However, he says he has learnt the most from the student .He has worked as a house master, Dean of Internal Examinations, Coordinator for Rotas and Routines. He has also served as the Supervising Examiner for the ICSE Examination, appointed as an ISC Examiner for marking of answer scripts, also appointed as a Centre Superintendent for conducting CBSE Examination.

Mr. Bhola Prasad (Teacher)

Mr. Bhola Prasad has been teaching Mathematics to students for over 30 years. He prefers a methodical approach towards teaching and believes Maths to be the one subject where every student can excel. Teaching for him is not only imparting knowledge but also inculcating moral soundness in the students. His strong relationship with his students is based on being accessible and caring.

Previously, Mr. Prasad held teaching positions in Guru Nanak Model High School, Tezpur and Don Bosco High School ,Tezpur. He was promoted as the Headmaster in Guru Nanak Model High School, Tezpur. He shortly served as the Director of Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh under MOHRD, Govt. Of India. He was also the Honorary Principal of Oju Mission School, a residential school in Naharlagun.




Mrs. Barnali Baruah (Teacher)

Qualification: M. Sc. (Mathematics), B. Ed.

Mrs. Barnali has an experience of teaching “Mathematics” for over 19 years. She also enjoys enhancing mathematical concepts of the students through “E-GURU MATHS LAB” at the school.





Mr. C. S. Shankar (Teacher)

Qualification: M.Sc.,B.Ed.,P.G.D.C.A.

Mr. C.S.Shankar is a Post Graduate Teacher in Mathematics, joined in Assam Valley School Family in April 2015 has completed his Post Graduation in Mathematics at Gobi Arts & Science College, an Autonomous College affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. He completed his Bachelor of Education in Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Teachers College, affiliated to Bharathiar University in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. His first assignment as a Mathematics Teacher was in a day school in his hometown Salem, Tamilnadu and then he gained experience in various boarding schools for about 17 years in South India by teaching various streams like Matric, State Board, CBSE, ICSE & ISC streams. He has good interest in the game Tennis and has constantly been playing this game.





Ms. Kabita Bala Devi (Teacher)

Kabita Bala Devi is an alumna of Gauhati University. Born and brought up in Tezpur, Ms Kabita has had an affinity towards Mathematics since her childhood. She considers herself fortunate for having received the opportunity to be a part of a prestigious institution like The Assam Valley School. Apart from keeping herself busy with numbers, she dabbles in volleyball, having won accolades at the post-grad level. She believes that teaching is an enriching experience and she only hopes to excel in whatever she does, keeping in mind the need of the students first.





Mr. Sunit Manjil Hazarika (Teacher)

Qualification: Completed 5 Year Integrated M.Sc. in Physics with specialization in Photonics from Tezpur University.

Mr. S. M. Hazarika completed his post graduation in May 2016. After his post graduation he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Madras, as a Project Associate and worked in Fiber Optics. He joined the Assam Valley School in January 2017.

As a student of Tezpur University he was the President of the Students’ Science Council and was an active member of various forums including quizzing and astronomy. He is very passionate towards Optics and Light based technologies and has published papers on Optical Metrology. He believes that Mathematics is the ‘Language of the Universe’ and enjoys teaching the subject. .





Mr. Tapash Das (Teacher)

Qualification: Integrated M.Sc. (Maths)

Mr. Tapash Das is an alumnus of Tezpur University. Passionate as he is in Maths, he did his Integrated M.Sc. in Mathematics from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Tezpur University during 2011-16. After completing his masters he joined Kendriya Vidyalaya, Central University Tezpur as a Mathematics Teacher. He joined the Assam Valley School in January 2017. Apart from his academic activities, he likes to play football and cricket. He has good hold over his micromanagement skills which he inculcated as a part of him being an active member of the Tezpur University Students’ Science Council and coordinator of various student forums during his tenure as a student of the University.
