House Report

Kopili House is the joint-winner of The R. B. Magor Cup 2010-11 and has an identity of her own. Yet again, the brother-sister duo of Dhansiri-Kopili spelt magic and a second-time round the coveted trophy is ours! This year has been a year of change and the House seemed to be on a fairly mature footing in the capable hands of House Captain Mehreen Rahman suitably assisted by House Prefects Srishti Joshi and Versha Gurung. Kopili House also had the honour of having in its midst the Head of Event Management, Oishi De. The Pastoral Care operators of this House, include Mrs Anusha Sharma as House Mistress (A) and Mrs K. Goswamiy as House Mistress (B) from January 2010. Mrs. C. Lyonette joined Kopili House as the Dame.

Sports has continued to be very dear to Kopili Girls and several of them continued to feature in the school teams in various games. Leading from the front was Versha Gurung who was also the Captain of the School Soccer and Basketball Girls’ teams. Tremendous sporting potential has been found in Shreya Chakraborty, Ashesha Khandelwal, Mehreen Rahman, Srishti Joshi, Ambika Agarwal, Vidhi Lahoty, Onia Subu, Priyanka Warbah, Aido Taloh and Eyeni Yanthan. With such potential our year began on a high note as we captured the First Position in Volleyball and the Second Position in Archery as well as Basketball. Lawn Tennis, Hockey and Table Tennis, together seem to be looking up. Vidhi Lahoty gave a strong impetus to the swimming aspirants by bagging honours at the State Level Championships held at Guwahati. At the Inter-House Swimming Meet, Kopili girls were adjudged the Runners-up. Very recently Monica of Class IX was placed in the State Senior Women’s Hockey Team for the National level Championship.

In the academic sphere, Kopili is exceptionally blessed with scholars like Sneh Ratna Choudhury, Ankita Goyal, Meshi Techi and Diksha Singhi who will further prove their mettle as the batch of ICSE 2011 along with Nanglu, Srishti, Mehreen, Oishi, to name a few, trying for top honours in the year ahead at the ISC Level. Some creditable performances given by Juniors include  Shivalika Choudhury, Saloni Saraogi, Priyanka Kakati, Riyanka, Suravi Podder, Aashana Chhawcharia among many others. We also delivered good results  at the ISC as well as ICSE Level in 2010. Sheena Lyngdoh topped the House with a stupendous aggregate of 96% in Class 12. Chaity Sarkar, Harshita Dhanuka, Onia Subu, Uttara M. Thapa, Dani Nagyang and Nandini Singha scored over 90% and did their House proud. The House achieved the highest aggregate at the ICSE Level in 2010. It is no surprise that we are the winners of the Academic Cup and adjudged the Most Disciplined House amongst all.

In cultural pursuits, the year started with a second Position in the Chemistry Poster Making Contest, a First in the Round Square sponsored Poster Making Contest wherein they beautifully depicted the theme, ‘We Walk Together’. The House also won the second place in the thought-provoking Power Point Presentation on Child Labour. Special mention for Ishmita Paul, Shreya Chakraborty and Nilofar for bringing top honours to the House, in the field of Art. This House has also produced very talented musicians in Chaity Sarkar, Dani Nagyang, Onia Subu, Nandini Singha, Priyanka Tamuly and Uttara Marak Thapa. We have in the past earned and will continue to earn honours in instrumental as well as vocal singing. Chaity and Dani have given stellar performances at the India Got Talent (2) Competition. In the Inter-House Dance Competition we came Third but the Duet performance left an indelible impression on the minds of the viewers. Very recently in the Poster-Making competition based on the theme of Anti-Bullying & Substance Abuse, our Middle-School girls bagged the 1st & 2nd Position. A good start to 2011, indeed!

In the second-half of the year gone by, the shimmer and sparkle of the fashion industry gave an impetus to creativity and several Kopili Girls designed outfits as well as sashayed down the ramp looking gorgeous in unstitched outfits from the ‘Button Masala Creations’, under the aegis of the school’s Craft & Design Center. Shreya Chakraborty, Aido Taloh, Dagi Ngomdir and a few others learnt the skills of designing clothes while Farheen Khan and Nehal Jalan stylishly sashayed down the ramp to a thunderous applause and much deserved accolades.

This year the mantle of leadership has been donned by Chaity Sarkar (House Captain), Upasana Duarah (House Prefect) and Uttara Marak Thapa (House Prefect) while at the School Level Onia Subu is the very popular Sports Captain (Girls) and Nangyang Dani (Prefect- Indian Music). We look forward to their carrying on the legacy of doing well in all spheres with truth and goodwill.

Life is full of ups and downs and likewise, we too have seen difficult times and learnt lessons from it. However, kudos to all the Kopili girls, Juniors and Seniors, who have persevered till date and continue to uphold their House Motto ‘To Strive, To Seek and Never Give up’.
