When I think of the words travel or adventure, what comes to my mind is a single word, retreat. But what comes to my imagination is what describes these word best. A beach sprawled beside a low tide seaside, a steep mountain cloaked in white or even a simple scanty plain – the abode of wild animals. Whatever the image, it forms in the inner eye of our minds and our imagination feeds on the visual aesthetics of such things we know as pictures.

This year The Assam Valley School decided to bring back and revive a dying tradition of student excursions and treks by sending our students to no less than seventeen hand-picked tourist destinations across the country and abroad. These trips ranged from the neighbouring states of Assam to the beautiful beaches and grove-frilled foothills of our country.

The intention was to help develop a stronger bond of unity and friendship among the students and teachers. Apart from this, the trips encouraged learning through experience. Be it the historical sights of Jaipur or the national wildlife parks of Pachmarhi, the snow-covered Tungnath temple below the summit of Chandrashila or the floating markets in Thailand, each destination served its purpose to both aesthetically please our students as well as leave an impression upon them, one that they would cherish for a long time.
