The Lower School Inter-House English Debates which began on the 26th of April 2021 has, over the years, made a significant mark for itself on the cultural circuit.  The first Preliminary Round of the debates was held physically on campus and was a fierce completion between Jinari-Manas and Subansiri-Namdang on ‘This House Believes That Nepotism Does More Harm Than Good’. Both the Houses performed equally well and this round ended in a tie. The second debate was fought between Bhoroli-Lohit and Kopili-Dhansiri over the topic ‘This House Believes That Homeschooling is Better Than Traditional School Education’. Both the Houses spoke with great vigour and Kopili-Dhansiri walked away winners.  The rest of the debates were held virtually and the second round of Prelims saw Subansiri-Namdang face Bhoroli-Lohit over the topic ‘This House Believes That Religious Studies Must Be Made Mandatory in Indian Schools’. The Houses were outstanding in their arguments and Bhoroli-Lohit won this round. The second debate in the Second Prelim round was between Jinari-Manas and Kopili Dhansiri who faced-off over the topic ‘This House Believes That Text Books Must Go Digital’. The debate had the audience engrossed and was won by Jinari-Manas. The first debate in the third Prelim round saw a neck to neck fight between Jinari-Manas and Bhoroli-Lohit over the topic ‘This House Believes That the World is Biased in Favour of Males’.  Jinari-Manas emerged winners. The second debate was between Subansiri-Namdang and Kopili-Dhansiri over the topic ‘This House Believes That Technology Has Robbed Children of Their Childhood’ and was won by Subansiri-Namdang.  The end of the third round sadly, saw Kopili-Dhansiri eliminated from the competition while Jinari-Manas made it straight to the finals. Bhoroli-Lohit and Subansiri- Namdang found themselves locking horns in a nail-biting KNOCKOUT round over the topic ‘This House Believes That the Greatest Threat to Humanity Is Greed’. It was a tough fight and saw Bhoroli-Lohit make it to the finals. The evening of the Finals was a much anticipated event and the audience remained riveted as Bhoroli-Lohit faced Jinari-Manas on the topic ‘This House Believes That Parents Must Make Their Children Active Participants in The Running of the Home’. Both teams put up a good fight and the event came to an end with Team Jinari-Manas comprised of Aakanksha Kumar, Pratham Hawelia, Ahsash Agarwal and Dwij Dhakal lifting the trophy. While Aakanksha Kumar was adjudged the Most Promising Speaker, Ahsash Agarwal was awarded the Best Speaker Award. It is worth noting that with the new Round-Robin format, an impressive twenty-three speakers participated and enjoyed the experience.
